World Book Day
World Book Day was on Thursday 5th March. To celebrate this we chose a fabulous book we could enjoy over the week. The book we chose was, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.
We read the story every day and retold it in different ways. We told the story using our hands to set the rhythm, we told the story using different actions, and we acted the story out outside. We then made instruments to help us retell the story and made bear masks to use when acting out the story. We made a bear hunt outside and used the Bee-bots to move from one part of the story to the next. We also made a story map. Some children then made their own story maps. We talked about how the bear might feel at the end of the story – we agreed he must have felt very sad because he might have wanted to play with the children. We therefore decided that we would make some pictures for the bear to make him feel happier. We would love to be the bear’s friends because we are all good friends in F1! |
During this week, the Librarian visited from Hyson Green library. The Librarian bought some popular books with her. We got to read all three books and then we voted for our favourite. It was interesting because the morning and afternoon children chose different books as their favourites.
On Friday 6th March, we all dressed up as our favourite characters, some of us dressed as characters from books, some as characters from films and some as super heroes! We looked fantastic! We had Elsa, Anna, Spiderman, Batman, Cinderella, Superman, Belle and Little Red Riding Hood. Even the grown-ups dressed up, with Miss Barney being a cat, Miss Shevlane being a bear and Mrs Wilson dressing up as Where’s Wally? |
Construction and Mark Making
We gave the children some large sheets of paper in the construction area. We encouraged the children to extend their thinking by drawing maps or making their own small worlds.
The children are thoroughly enjoying this new opportunity and have created some wonderful small worlds with fantastic constructions to match.

The Three Little Pigs
While we were reading the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ we did lots of lovely activities. We built our own houses, explored building materials including bricks, spirit levels and trowels. We retold the story using props. We used the house materials from the story to make the each of the pig’s houses. We have put these pictures up on display in our home corner.

The Gingerbread Man at Talk Time
During Talk Time, we had lots of different types of ginger; ginger biscuits, ginger spice, chunks of ginger and a bulb of ginger. We enjoyed using all of our senses to experience ginger.
