Advent Wreath
|
We have made our own Advent Wreath to help us prepare for Jesus’ Birthday.
We learnt that each candle has a different meaning and that one is lit each Sunday during advent. We thought about the symbolism of the evergreen leaves and the circular shape of the wreath. We have placed our Advent Wreath on our prayer table. |
Retreat Day
To introduce our topic we had a birthday party for Eddie and Edwina. We lit candles on a cake, sang happy birthday, played birthday party games and gave our friends a card and a present.
We then had a Retreat Day with Frances. We talked about how in a few weeks‘ time it would be Jesus‘ birthday and that over the next few weeks we would be getting ready for His birthday during a time called Advent. We discussed why the prayer table colour has changed to the colour purple. During our Retreat Day we made an Advent Calendar, the children thought of an idea for each day of Advent for how we could use one of our gifts from God. This would help us prepare our hearts for Jesus' Birthday. We finished the day with a liturgy. The children chose items for our prayer focal point, wrote and shared thank you prayers, sang a song called 'One Family' and joined all their Advent Missions together. |

Reflection Day
We spent the day having a special Retreat Day with our Chaplain Frances. We looked at ourselves and how God has made us all unique and special.
We started the day with a story called ‘You are all my Favourites’. This was about three bears who wondered if their Mummy and Daddy loved any of them more than the others. They found out that their Mummy and Daddy loved them all the same because they were all different and all special. We then thought about how different and special we all are. Mrs Thurman showed us how to paint our self-portrait. |

We finished the day with a special Liturgy.
We sang a song with actions called ‘I’m So Special’ and finished with a special prayer. It was a really lovely day and was so nice to think about how God has made us all and he loves us so much. |
A Prayer Written by F2
Dear God, Thank you for making us special and for giving us our loving family. We are your children, you hold us in your hand and make us happy. Thank you for all the delicious food you give us each day and for water. We are precious and we love you God. Amen |
Baptism visit
As part of our ‘Welcome’ topic in ‘Come and See’ Foundation 2 are learning about how people are welcomed into God’s family. To help us learn more about this, Foundation 2, Year 1 and Year 2 went to St Mary’s Church to meet Father David on Tuesday 14th October.
Father David was very helpful and showed us what a Baptism would look like in church. He used some of the children to help act out the roles of the priest, parents and Godparents and even used our class doll, Annabelle, as a new born baby! This made it easier for us to visualise a real Baptism.
Father David showed us the Easter Candle, the Font and the Holy Water. He spoke about the white clothing and the special oils that are used. He even anointed baby Annabelle with the special oils and we were able to smell their spicy scent when we arrived back at school.
