Year 1 RE
Special People
During our topic of Special People topic Year 1 was lucky to have Gaby lead a retreat day. We did lots of different activities including going over to the church to perform our own mass. Each child was given a different role to play such as the priest or altar servers and we were able to see the particular job that each special person completed.
Holy Days
During Year 1s topic of Holy Days we focused on the day of Pentecost. We were very lucky to complete a retreat afternoon on this focus where we discussed the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Individually we all wrote a present tag with a sentence of praise such as ‘he has risen!’ Then we attached these to balloons and set them off in order to represent the symbol of wind. We really enjoyed the day and it helped secure our knowledge of the Holy Spirit.
Advent Reflection Day
Throughout the school we completed an Advent Reflection day to begin the preparation for Jesus’ birth. In year 1 we focused on different crafts and promises.
We completed an Advent calendar which had a mission for each day, an advent wreath and advent candles. The children really enjoyed the day and were able to discuss the importance of Advent. |

Mission Statement
The School Chaplaincy Team visited our class and taught us some actions to help us remember our school mission statement which is:
“To walk hand in hand with God, loving him, loving each other and loving ourselves, doing our best with the gifts he gave us to make the world a richer place.” |

Baptism
As part of our RE topic we acted out a baptism in the church with Father David.
He talked to us about what happens when a baby is baptised and showed us the special oils and candle that are used during the sacrament. |

CAFOD Silly Day
This October Year 1 helped to raise money to support CAFOD by wearing something silly to school. In our class we had some great outfits from wearing pants on our heads to odd shoes on our feet.
“I felt really silly with pants on my head!” Ewan
Miss Catton and Miss Childs joined in with the fun and came to school wearing their pyjamas inside out and odd socks on their feet.
We felt proud to raise lots of money for a good cause.
