Year 2 Literacy
Book Week
|
During Book Week Year 2 took part in all sorts of fun activities to celebrate books and reading.
The book we focused our work on was The Story of Robin Hood. On Monday we acted out parts of the story in small groups and predicted what might happen next in the story. We also had a trip to the Hyson Green Library where we joined the Library and took out some books. |
On Tuesday our lesson was led by our visitor, Martha Toogood. We thought in more detail about the feelings and emotions of the different characters in our book, The Story of Robin Hood.
We had discussions as a class and in small groups, we hot-seated different characters and then we acted out the battle scene as a class. In our Literacy lessons on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we wrote diaries based on the book from the viewpoint of the main character, a little boy called Jack. We tried to describe his emotions at different parts of the story. |
|
On Friday we all dressed up as our favourite book characters and came to school in costume. Throughout the week we had been bringing in books we no longer wanted or read. These books then went on sale and the children bought new books to take home with them.
Traditional Tales
|
This term we will be studying Traditional Tales in Literacy.
The children will be listening to them, reading them independently and in groups, retelling them orally, re-writing them and finally, changing them to write their own versions. Examples of traditional tales are: Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretal, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and The Three Bears and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. |
Boris the Class Rabbit
After that, they composed questions for the job interview in small groups.
They were then given time to think about, write and practise their responses to each question.
They were then given time to think about, write and practise their responses to each question.

Finally, the job interviews were held and each child had the chance to be the interviewer and the interviewee. The eventual winner of the job was Zeze and she took Boris home for the week. |
