Year 5 Music
Instruments
Following on from their work in Year Four, all children in Year Five are continuing their learning with instruments. We play clarinets, trumpets and Wiktor plays a treble recorder. We're currently learning to play 'Lean on Me'. Here's a few pictures of us working at this.
Music Camp – September 2014
Over 100 children from schools across the city joined a group of Year 5 children from St. Mary’s to take part in the wonderful opportunity to study music and practice their instrumental skills. We set off early on Wednesday morning for two fun packed days at Ilam Hall, set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. As soon as we arrived we began practicing our instruments and learning how to read music. We took part in a variety of activities which helped the children to embed their knowledge and skills in music. The activities were fun and practical and accumulated in a musical orientation exercise set in the grounds of the hall where children had to work together and use the skills they had learned to solve music clues and tasks. At the end of our second day all the instrument groups came together and performed, as a small orchestra, the pieces of music they had been learning which included Africa by Toto. They sounded truly amazing! All the children who attended made a commitment to continue to learn their instrument and join the Area Band. The children worked very hard and thoroughly enjoyed this enriching experience and there is no doubt that they all made fantastic progress in such a short time. |
