The Prodigal Son
We like to explore the Bible in different ways. Having read the parable of ‘The Prodigal Son’, we used drama to demonstrate our understanding of the story. We held a court case to explore the actions of the characters involved and where possible made links to the unconditional love of God and other stories from the Bible.
Vocation Retreat Day
We began our week back with a special retreat day to support our understanding of our Vocation topic. This was led by Frances, our school chaplain. In this, we looked at the Gospel of Mark 1:14-20 ‘The calling of Simon and Andrew’ and discussed this. We thought carefully about what the term vocation means, especially in the context of being a priest. We then used video and drama to examine the different parts of the ordination and presented these to the class. In each of our dramas, we aimed to explain how the candidate might be feeling and make links to other sacraments and Bible stories. We finished our day with a liturgy to embrace all that we had explored.
Father David visits Year 6
We would like to say a big thank you to Father David for helping us gain a deeper understanding of life as a priest.
During his visit to Year 6, we were able to ask him lots of questions about the call to priesthood and his day to day life in the parish. Cariad -“It was really beneficial because we got to learn all the aspects of a priest’s life. His responses were so good we gave him a biscuit! Maks “I really enjoyed Father David coming to our school because I learnt how it is to be a priest and it inspired me to be a priest in the future.” |
Edie – “When Father David came in, it was interesting to learn about the sacrifices a priest has to make. It was also interesting to learn about the good things a priest does to help people in the community.”
Usman – “It was really interesting having Father David in because we learnt how good it is to be a priest and he answered some tricky questions from us!”
Residential to The Briars in Crich
Year 6 had a really lovely weekend retreat at the Briars which is the residential youth centre for the Diocese of Nottingham based in Crich, Derbyshire. The children began their weekend with a visit to the heights of Abraham which was very exciting and some of us discovered we have quite the head for heights!! The children were then joined by the Year 6 children from our neighbouring school Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and together we all worked with the Reach4 Team for a weekend of personal, social and spiritual development and reflection. The children participated in liturgies, worship, prayer time and mass, and also had the opportunity to take in the stunning views of Crich during our walk in the countryside.
