Reconciliation Retreat Afternoon
On Monday June 15th, Year 2 enjoyed a Retreat afternoon with our Chaplain, Gabie, focusing on the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The children completed lots of assorted activities about the different steps in the Sacrament: Examination of Conscience, Confession to the Priest, Penance, the Act of Contrition and then Absolution. To finish the day, six children worked on and then delivered a Liturgy on the theme, whilst the rest of the class wrote their own Sorry prayer.
Thanksgiving Retreat Day
|
On Monday February 23rd Year 2 enjoyed a retreat day led for us by our Chaplains, Frances and Gabie. The theme of the day was Thanksgiving and the children took part in various activities including: writing Thank You prayers, making a surprise thank you box with a special message for another child in the class, dramas about thanking people, learning new songs and finishing with a short Liturgy led by the children. It was a wonderful, relaxing and reflective day. |
The Story of The Annunciation
Children worked in pairs to re-enact the story of The Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel visited Mary.
They then took it in turns to hot seat the character of Mary and think more deeply about how she felt and why she agreed. |

Advent Reflection Day 2014
|
On Friday November 28th the whole school took part in the annual Advent Reflection Day.
In Year 2, we wrote our Advent promises on cut-outs of our hands. We shaped these into an Advent wreath to complete our new display. We also learned about the significance of the different parts of the Advent wreath and made our own class wreath. Then we thought of a Mission for each day of Advent for our class. We put these into our special box and we will pick out a Mission each day starting on Monday. The day was completed with a beautiful Mass in the school hall led by Father Bill. Year 2 finished the Mass with an Advent Reflection with actions to accompany the words. |
Baptism in the Classroom
The children were split into small groups to re-enact a Baptism. They took it in turns to take on the different roles involved.
Baptism Talk with Father David - Tuesday October 14th
On Tuesday October 14th, Foundation 2, Year 1 and Year 2 went across to Church to meet up with Father David.
As we are all looking at Baptism at the moment as part of our ‘Come and See’ topic, we asked Father David to help us out. He was very pleased to help and showed us what a Baptism would really look like in Church. He used the children to re-enact the Sacrament of Baptism and explained in very clear and easy to understand terms what each of the symbols of Baptism mean. We talked about the Font and the Holy Water, the white clothing, the candle and the special oils used. We also talked about the people who would attend a Baptism and why people are baptised. |

Baptism Retreat Day - Monday October 13th
On Monday October 13th Year 2 had a thoughtful and prayerful day thinking about Baptism.
The day was led by our Chaplain, Frances, and it proved to be a wonderful experience for us all. We took parts in lots of activities, sung new songs and wrote prayers. Other activities included making friendship bracelets to remind us that we are friends with God and God loves us and writing something we are sorry for and letting it wash away in water. |
|
The children thoroughly enjoyed it and their comments at the end of the day included…
‘It was the perfect day.’
‘I loved helping people to make bracelets.’
‘I enjoyed working together on the Liturgy.’
‘I loved singing the songs because it made me happy.’
‘I thought it was great having Frances in our class for the day.’

CAFOD Silly Stuff Day - Friday October 3rd
Friday October 3rd was CAFOD Fast Day and this year the theme was Silly Stuff. Year 2 had a fantastic day in their very silly outfits. This began with a whole school Assembly on the theme of Harvest and we all learnt a lot of facts about how much food is wasted in this country and more about the amazing work of CAFOD.
Next, in Literacy we held very serious and grown up job interviews. The job that the children had all written their letters of application for was to look after the class rabbit (toy!), Boris, during the October half term holiday. The children took it in turns to be interviewed and to ask the questions. They were very mature and professional throughout this lesson. |

In the afternoon Year 2 completed their Come and See topic with a Liturgy about Beginnings. Our focus was the Creation Story and the children worked in teams to plan and deliver each part of the Liturgy.
