Year 5 - Enrichment Activities
Health Week
Mobile Smiles
Mobile Smiles visited today to talk to us about the importance of looking after our teeth well. They told us about foods which are good and bad for our teeth and gave us some tips for brushing effectively. We had chance to ask questions to a dentist and get our teeth checked in the Mobile Smiles van.
Rowing
Year 5 also had the opportunity to take part in a rowing session led by Notts County's Football in the Community team. It was hard work but we had great fun and challenged ourselves to beat our personal best scores!
Primary Parliament - Friday 12th June
Children's Health and Well-being in the 21st Century Four children from Year 5 - Kashell, Emily, Vincenzo and Michal R - went to Nottingham Council House as part of the Primary Parliament Programme. It was a great opportunity to make new friends, share new ideas, views and experiences and develop ties with other schools. The day was divided into 3 sessions. Session 1 - looking at what children need for good health and well-being. Session 2 - guest speaker about health and technology around the idea of designing an activity or app to promote good health and well-being among children and families. Session 3 - preparing a presentation to deliver to the council chambers. The children's presentation was very professional and was applauded by all. |
Before leaving the children got to speak to and share ideas with Nottingham's Lord Mayor, who thought their ideas for games were fantastic! |
The Allotment
Small groups from Year 5 spent the afternoon at the allotment learning about insect and wind pollinated plants. We even investigated live examples in order to build our understanding and record the features of both types of plants.
We spent the remaining time preparing the soil for crops that will grow this season.

Childline Workshop
Year Five took part in a Childline workshop. In our session we spoke of different situations connected to different types of abuse. In pairs and in whole class discussions we considered which situations would make us feel happy and safe and which would make us uncomfortable and in need of adult help. We expressed our views on ChildLine and spoke in more detail of the service they offer.
ChildLine/NSPCC Assembly
Year 5 and 6 had an assembly given by ChildLine and the NSPCC.
The aim of this was to raise our awareness of the different types of abuse and who we can seek help from. If you need to contact ChildLine the details are: Telephone 08001111 Internet http://www.childline.org.uk/buddy |
GREAT Project
Following the success of previous years, Year Five are taking part in the GREAT Project again this year. The project runs for four weeks and helps children to recognise and understand what things contribute to healthy and unhealthy relationships. Much of the work takes place through fun discussions and role play and the children have already been getting creative in only their very first session.
Take a look at some of their songs, raps and role plays! |

We dressed in Christmas jumpers and other festive clothing to raise money for Save the Children. Thank you for the great effort made by children and parents and your generous donations.
